About RegenerateBackgroundUp to now there have been several initiatives to bring together researchers working in the various fields related to all aspects of Regenerative Medicine. They have, however, had only limited success in creating a well interconnected research community in this field. REGENERATE is a European network connecting people and institutions involved in all aspects of REGENERAtive Medicine (REGMED) and Tissue Engineering. The EEIG is the result of the initiative of people working in various fields relevant for REGMED/TE and is dating back to the beginning of this century. The members of the network REGENERATE have met regularly to promote the formal establishment of the network and the specific aims of the group with respect to the improvement of interconnection in research and education for the area of Regenerative Medicine and Tissue Engineering in Europe. Future activities will also include intensified exchange with relevant industrial partners and consultancy. At present, experts from various scientific areas (including Materials Sciences, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Bioengineering, Medicine, Pathology, Tissue Engineering etc.) and several European countries (Austria, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Portugal and Spain) are actively participating in our network. They decided to create a new legal entity based on community law to facilitate and encourage cross-border cooperation in the highly interdisciplinary field of Regenerative Medicine and Tissue Engineering. The network got its formal establishment in 2006 as an EEIG (European Economic Interest Grouping) with the name REGENERATE European network for Regenerative Medicine based on Council Directive (EEC) no. 2137/85 dated July 25, 1985 (“EEIG Directive”). |
